Job Description

Transportation Manager

 

Summary Management of fleet and drivers, , Arrange for all P/U and delivery of full load shipments.  Manage and monitor fuel accounts and related invoices.  Oversee company compliance/safety efforts in conjunction with branch manager. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Manage all Drivers within Branch territory to include interviewing, hiring, training, counseling, and terminating as needed. 

  • Prepares documentation for Delivery, Shipping, and Receiving as needed. 

  • Maintain driver's roster with expiration dates of compliance requirements. 

  • Develops schedules, responsible for dispatching and coordinating all outgoing delivery trucks to Customer locations. 

  • Coordinates Pre-Employment and Random Drug Testing 

  • Maintains specific Department of Transportation compliance to include but not limited to:  Drivers license/CDL renewals, medical examiners certificate renewals, annual review of all drivers "Motor Vehicle Records", Annual review of all drivers "Certificate of Violations", annual vehicle inspections, audit drivers logs and trip reports, review driver "Qualification Files" to ensure they are in compliance with DOT requirements 

  • Set-up and maintain documentation process for daily outbound deliveries and inbound receiving log, verifying merchandise received matches purchase orders. 

  • Complete damaged merchandise/discrepancy paperwork and prepare damaged merchandise for transfer 

  • Audit pallets picked to measure accuracy. 

  • Observe and promote established safety procedures and maintain a clean working environment. 

  • Maintain driver's roster with expiration dates of compliance requirements. 

  • Coordinate movement and transfer of equipment. 

  • Rate negotiations with truck load carriers. 

  • Review transportation accidents for insurance coverage. 

  • Negotiate maintenance fees. 

  • Continuous training and reinforcement on all transportation issues. 

  • Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the software and how to effectively use it.  Identify opportunities for simplification, increased effectiveness, and promote these changes.  

Supervisory Responsibilities                                              

  •  All drivers in assigned fleet

 

Education and/or Experienc

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and five years experience in the transportation of goods and materials and 3-5 years managing people; or equivalent combination of education and experience.   Experience with Internet and Microsoft Office software.
